Background

The JDMIS is a private limited company registered in Singapore in 2007. The school's majority shareholder is JusTanja Pte. Ltd. an education business with over 12 years of jewellery training experience in Singapore. Through JusTanja's Creative Jewellery Studio, over 11,000 students have completed professional training courses since 1995.

The Dean of the JDMIS, Tanja M. Sadow is a jeweler, gemologist and educator in Singapore and has worked with the Gemological Institute of America training US-based residence and extension courses as well as teaching the first GIA international extension course in Singapore. Her background includes the development of curricula for the Jewellery Industry Training Centre of Singapore in 1991-1994.

Location

The JDMIS is located in Shaw Towers, 100 Beach Road, #02-50/57, Singapore 189702 where it operates four classrooms to conduct jewellery design and fabrication courses each for between 8 and 12 students. One room is classified as a workshop and is used by students and GJPA members for 'practice sessions' where specialized equipment may be used under supervision. The school also maintains a large student space, speciallized library of jewellery texts and a 'merchanidising lab' where students can display and sell their creations to the public.

Courses

The JDMIS offers a single Diploma in Jewellery Design and Marketing and two Advanced Diplomas in Jewellery Design and Management, and Jewellery Design and Entrepreneurship. Also offered is a Specialist Diploma in Jewellery Design Fabrication that incorporates practical elements of both diploma and advanced diploma programs. These diplomas each consist of over 700 hours full time study, broken into eight modules over six months.

Short 34-hour, skills based certificate programs designed for the trade and Singaporean students and existing jewellery designers deliver technical expertise in week-long full-time programs and month-long evening courses. Certificate holders receive credit for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma modules, should they chose later to enroll in the full time Diploma courses.

Accreditation

The JDMIS is registered with the Singapore Ministry of Education and its programmes have been approved by the Private Schools Division.[1] The school is a member of the Singapore Jewellers Association.[2] JDMIS also provides materials and supplementary training and examination proctorship for the Accredited Jewellery Professional correspondence program from the Gemological Institute of America. It has incorporated the AJP curriculum as part of its own foundation to Gemmology course/module, for which participants completing GIA's requirements also receive a Diploma from the GIA.

The JDMIS is a founding member of the Guild of Jewellery Professionals and Artisans, a registered not-for-profit society in Singapore whose mandate is to define and uphold standards in jewellery fabrication and education in the region.
